An Eye for an eye!
Ocular and Orbital defects: Surgical and Prosthetic Rehabilitation (Part-1)
Loss of an eye has permanent functional and psychological consequences. Aesthetic rehabilitation thus gives the person a fair chance to resume his professional and social life.
Good aesthetic rehabilitation of an anophthalmic or exenteration socket is a combined work of the prosthetics team and oculoplastic surgeon.
Surgical intervention of pathologies involving the eye may result in ocular and orbital defects. An ocular prosthesis, either custom made or stock shell uplift the patient psychologically and socially. The custom made prosthesis is advantageous for improved comfort and esthetics. A successfully rehabilitated anophthalmic socket must not only hold but as well support a prosthetic device that mimics the contralateral globe.
